It is reported that Wickham Bishops with a population of under 2000 emerges top of the most valuable streets in the county, with the average house price on Mope Lane valued at almost £2.4 million. This much loved village has twice been awarded the title of the ‘Best Kept Village' over the last 10 years.

Historically Wickham Bishops appears in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as ‘Wicham' meaning dwelling with a (dairy) farm, Bishops refers to the fact the land belonged to the Bishop of London.

Classed as a village and a civil parish in the Maldon district, Wickham Bishops is located around three miles north of the town of Maldon and around two miles southeast of Witham.

This village and the adjoining village of Little Braxted, have a good range of amenities, with a number of local shops, public houses and a good choice of restaurants including The Green Man and Olio At The Chequers being the closest. A more extensive choice can be found in the nearby town of Maldon and also in Witham, which is on the main railway line into London Liverpool Street (from 43 minutes) and where there is access to the A12.
